China is located between the circum-Pacific seismic belt and the Alpine-Humalayan seismic zone. The frequency of seismic activity in China is high, and earthquakes are distributed widely,China is deeply affected because of this.Earthquakes often destroy infrastructures and buildings, this will stop city's social and economic systems and activities.Severe earthquakes can even destroy all the civilization that was built over the years and threaten human lives and properties.Historical area reflects the historical features, traditions and patterns. It's an important part of the historical heritage and should be well conserved. From an earthquake resistance point of view, using historical area as the research object, this paper aims to improve the resilience ability of historical area, and bring out a framework for assessing the resilience of historical area and strategies. The main content includes:1.Introduce the study background of resilient city and historical area, the meaning and purpose of this paper. The paper also states the study methods and frameworks.2.Based on the concepts of resilient city and historical area, this paper brings out the main theory: concept of resilient historical area.3.Then based on the concept of resilient historical area, the framework for assessing the resilience of historical area is established.First of all, make sure what systems influence resilience of historical area. Then establish a quantitative approach to measure system resilience, the following work is to bring out a framework to assess the system functions after the earthquake and to predict the recovery time after the earthquake. The final work is to assign a weight of each related system.4.Based on the framework for assessing the resilience of historical area, resilience strategies are brought out from four aspects: system influence, recovery time, total recovery effort and disaster warning.5.In order to examine this framework, this paper picks Liulichang west street community as the example, and through filed investigations and questionnaires to assess the resilience of the area.
