In recent years, the improvement of the reliability of power supply has made the equipment test switched to live test mainly from the original power failure test. The lightning arrester live test can measure the resistance current component of the leakage current of the arrester valve piece under the condition of no power interruption, and can judge the aging and damp condition of the valve plate of the lightning arrester, and have an incomparable advantage over the power failure test. But the impact of the surrounding electrified equipment on the arrester live test is urgently needed to be solved. In the arrester live test process, affected by the arrester arrangement and the electromagnetic environment of the surrounding electrical equipment and so on,the original arrester live test conventional methods(including the recently proposed phase angle method)often leads the resistance leakage current negative. This is not authentic, and does not match to the theory that the resistive leakage current should account for 5% to 20% of the total current. It is more difficult to judge the operation status with the standard of preventive test for power equipment. This paper compares the advantages and disadvantages of arrester testing technology at home and abroad, and analyzes the shortcomings of charged test methods. It puts forward the actual phase angle test method, which can eliminate the interference and negative value effectively by measuring the arrester on-site installation of the initial phase angle as the correction angle.Based on the theory of actual phase angle test method,a lightning arrester live tester is developed.By using the tester, three suspected defects of lightning arrester were found, and the equipment defects were identified through power failure prevention test and disassembly test.
