With the smart grid development,fault location for 10 kV distribution network is very important for improving the reliability of the whole power supply system.However,with the development of economy,the complex model and multi-line branch structure for 10 kV distribution network are limited the research and application of fault location method.In this paper,the wave propagation process of 10 kV distribution network fault was analyzed based on the traveling wave signal theory and the network structure of 10 kV distribution network,through the acquisition and processing the signal of the voltage and current of fault in 10 kV power distribution network to find a rapid and accurate method to find the fault point,put forward a set of reasonable fault location system for 10 kV distribution network.The main contents are as follows:(1)Analyze and study the communication process of traveling wave for 10 kV distribution network by the traveling wave theory and the characteristic of complex network structure and multi branch for 10 kV distribution network,laying the foundation for the research on fault location algorithm.(2)A fault location method for 10 kV distribution network based on D-type travelling wave theory was proposed by analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of various fault location methods.The method eliminate the influence of refraction and reflection of travelling wave,determine the fault point and the lines,and measurement point distance between fault point and reference by use D-type travelling wave theory for 10 kV distribution network.(3)Traveling wave fault location is for 10 kV distribution network is moded and data processed by PSCAD and MATLAB.The results show that the fault location method can locate the fault simply,fastly,and accurately based on D-type travelling wave theory for 10 kV distribution network.The principle of traveling wave fault location on power transmission line has been developed very mature.In this paper,the technology is used for 10 kV distribution network,the method eliminate the influence of refraction and reflection of travelling wave for distribution network.This method is Simple and universal.Fault location scheme for 10 kV distribution network was based on D-type travelling wave theory improve the precision of fault location,shorten the search time,improving the reliability of power supply,provided a possibility for fault location in distribution network by traveling wave theory,so It will have broad prospects for development.
