Research On Development Of Modern Urban Residential Spatial Form In Taiyuan City

Inhabitation is one of the basic functions of a city.With the naissance of the city,urban residential space was taking shape and has continuously been evolved with the development of society,economy and culture.Residential mode is indeed the reflection of both contents and forms of people’s dynamic changing living style and it varies with the development of the times.Therefore,urban residential space mode is defined as the reflection of people’s living style in the form of urban space during a certain period.It is a concept not just in its geographical sense,which is the external form,but also observed from a social perspective,which is the intrinsic nature of urban residential space mode.Taiyuan,a central city situated in the middle area of China,is increasingly been transformed into an economic zone with its rapid urban construction,adjustment of industrial structure as well as the layout of industrial space.Great changes have also taken place in its urban residential space.Based on existing studies and the construction practices of modern Taiyuan urban residential space,the paper looks into the developmental features of modern Taiyuan urban residential space mode and tries to draw the general law of its evolution by making a systematic and comprehensive analysis.It also aims to provide some methods and references for the future development of Taiyuan urban residential space mode.The study covers the period ranging from the founding of the People’s Republic of China till now,with the methods including field research,document statistics and etc.The paper contains five chapters.Chapter one introduces the paper’s research background,its content and its significance as well as the major research methods involved;Chapter two begins with the definition of urban residential space mode,which is illustrated from the aspects of urban residential space and residential mode,and then includes the evolution of modern residential space mode and its related theories;it finally covers the evolution of different residential modes at home and abroad;Chapter three deals with the study of Taiyuan residential space mode in modern times and in the history before the founding of the People’s Republic of China,which is illustrated from three aspects covering the general history of Taiyuan,the developmental features of urban residential space and residential space mode.Chapter four explores the general law of the evolution of Taiyuan residential space mode in the past by comparing the living space modes in its different historical periods.The last chapter first compares some contemporary typical examples of residential space modes and aims to work out the general evolutionary law of modern Taiyuan urban residential space mode.Then it points out the factors determining Taiyuan urban residential space mode,including the national policy,the economical development,the development of urban transportation,family structure and people’s life style.It will serve as reference for the future.Finally,according to the analysis above,it points out the problems in the development of modern Taiyuan urban residential space mode and meanwhile,the possible solutions;at the end of the paper is the expectation of the further study of future Taiyuan urban residential space mode.
