Poultry is a kind of light sensitive animals with highly developed visual systems. Light stimulation has a major effect on the growth and behavior of the poultry, as well as the rhythm. With the livestock and poultry breeding being more mechanizing, dimensions scaled and intensive, the controllable artificial light has become the main source of illumination inside the poultry house. As a new type of light source, LED (Light Emitting Diode) consumes lower energy and has a longer life, also easy to be controlled. Therefore, LED gradually become the alternative of light sources. The ambient temperature has a certain compact on the production performance and behavioral rhythms of broilers. The thesis aims to assess the effects of LED illumination and ambient temperature on the growth and behavior of broilers comprehensively. The "Xiaoshan" commercial broiler is selected as the research object, and different colors of light as research method. In this paper, the light color preference of broiler in different temperature is explored. Based on the light color in practical breeding, the slaughter characteristic, the feeding and drinking behavior, and the light requirement in entire growth phase of broiler are further investigated. The main contents and results are as follows:The preference of light color of broilers in high temperature (30.6?) was investigated, as well as feed consumption, water consumption, defecation amount and residence time in each light zones. It showed that feed consumption of short-wavelength (G, B) zone in early days (Day 29,35,38) is the largest. As the broilers grow, the feed consumption of long-wavelength (R, Y) zone increased in late days (Day 41,44,47). And defecation amount and residence time were similar as feed consumption. In the whole procedure, the broilers preferred to short-wavelength light in high temperature. The preference of light color of broilers in low temperature (6.9?) was investigated, as well as feed consumption, water consumption, defecation amount and residence time in each light zones. The feed consumption and water consumption showed no significant difference between each light zones in early days (Day 29,35). As the broilers grow, the feed consumption of long-wavelength (R) zone increased significantly in late days (Day 38,41,44,47), which is extremely higher than other light zones. And defecation amount and residence time were similar as feed consumption. In the whole procedure, the broilers preferred to long-wavelength light in low temperature.Based on the results of experiments before, the light requirement of broilers under yellow LED (Y) and the effect of different stocking density on body weight and slaughter characteristics were investigated. The result was that the production performance of low density was better than that of high density. But the stocking density did not affect the slaughter characteristics and organ weight obviously. The feed and water consumption of bright areas was more than dark areas in two groups which meant broilers showed preference for bright areas. However, decrease in both residence time and feed and water consumption indicated that broilers' preference for light declined in the late growth.
