This study was conducted to study the effects of betaine and rumen protected betaine on growth performance, serum indices of lambs, nutrients digestion, rumen internal environment, slaughter performance and meat quality. And the results are showed as follows:Trial 1:This Experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of betaine and rumen protected betaine in diets on growth performance and rumen nutrient apparent digestibility of lambs. Sixty lambs were randomLy divided into five groups with 12 replicates per group:control (Con) group,2.2g/d betaine (B-2.2) group,2g/d rumen protected betaine (RPB-2) group,4g/d rumen protected (RPB-4) group,6g/d rumen protected betaine (RPB-6) group. The experiment has a 60-day experiment. The results showed as follows:1) There were no significant differences in the average daily feed intake of lambs among all group(p>0.05). As compared with Con group and B-2.2 group, the average daily gain in RPB-2 group, RPB-4 group, RPB-6 group were significant increase (P<0.01), however, feed to gain of lambs was significant decrease(P< 0.01); 2) There were no significant differences in the the digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber of lambs among all group(P>0.05).Trial 2:This Experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of rumen protected betaine in diet on serum biochemical indexes and ruminal fermentation characteristics of lambs. The results showed as follows:1) compared with Con group and B-2.2, the contents of urea nitrogen, cholesterol and triglyceride in serum were significantly lower(p<0.05), the total protein and low-density lipoprotein were significantly increased(P<0.05), and the high-density lipoprotein was significantly different(P> 0.05).2) There were no significant differences in the concentrations of total volatile fatty acid, pH and ammonia nitrogen concentration of ruminal fluid of lambs among all group(P>0.05).Trial 3:This Experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of rumen protected betaine in diet on slaughter performance, meat quality, amino acid contents, the fatty acids composition, the contents of inosinic acid. Three lambs in each group were slaughtered at the end of the feeding experiment. The results showed as follows:1) Compared with Con group and Con group, RPB group significant significantly increased the SBW and carcass weight(P<0.05). There were no significant differences in dressing percentage, GR value and longissimus drorsi among all groups(P>0.05).2) Compared with the Con group and B-2.2 group, the a* of longissimus drorsi significantly increased(P<0.05), and significantly increased shear force in shoulder muscle, longissimus drorsi (P<0.05). Compared with the Con group, RPB group significantly decreased the drop loss of shoulder muscle and gluteus muscle(P< 0.05), significantly increased the pH of shoulder muscle, gluteus muscle and longissimus drorsi (P< 0.05).3)There were no significant differences in EE, moisture inshoulder muscle, gluteus muscle, longissimus drorsi of lambs among all group(P>0.05). Compared with Con group, RPB-4 group significantly increased the CP of shoulder muscle(P<0.05).4)There were no significant differences in flavor amino acid and total free amino acid inshoulder muscle, gluteus muscle of lambs among all group(P>0.05). Compared with Con group and B-2.2 group, the flavor amino acid and total free amino acid in longissimus drorsi was significantly different(P <0.01).5)There were no significant differences in SFA, UFA, MUFA, PUFA in shoulder muscle of lambs among all group(P>0.05). Compared with the Con group and B-2.2 group, the PUFA of gluteus muscle in RPB group was significantly differently(P<0.01), the SFA, UFA, MUFA of gluteus muscle in RPB group was not significantly differently(P>0.05). Compared with the Con group and B-2.2 group, RPB-4 group significantly decreased the SFA of longissimus drorsi (P<0.05), and significantly increased the UFA, PUFA and MUFA(P< 0.05).6)There were no significant differences in inosinic acid content inshoulder muscle andgluteus muscle of lambs among all group(P>0.05). Compared with Con group and B-2.2 group, RPB group significantly increased inosinic acid content in longissimus drorsi (P<0.01). 7)There were no significant differences in GSH-PX, SOD,CAT activityand GSH-PX content inshoulder muscle andgluteus muscle of lambs among all group(P>0.05), and Compared with Con group and B-2.2 group, RPB-4 group significantly increased GSH-PX, SOD, CAT activity in longissimus drorsi (P<0.05), and decreased MDA content.
