Evaluation on provincial cultivated land fertility can helps to understand the level of cultivated land fertility in large areas accurately and plays an important role in agriculture regional planning and agriculture production guiding. In this study, with collecting and analyzing large amounts of information which includes evaluation data of cultivated land fertility at county level, sampling point data of formula fertilization by soil testing and land use data of the study area from 2005 to 2014 years, the whole Shanxi province was divided into 5 areas by using the division method based on multi-scale indicators. Furthermore, different evaluation systems in various areas were built with the application of decision tree classification. And with the fertility being evaluated and classified, the cultivated land of Shanxi province was divided into 10 grades. The 1 to 3 grades of cultivated land has high fertility accounted for 11.56% of the total area of cultivated land. The 4-6 grades reaches 61.22% and the quality of cultivated land in this class can be improved by a series of effective protection measures.27.22% of cultivated land belongs to 7-10 grades that need be improved by executing land construction through ecological protection because it has serious obstacles in high production harvested from the land. The outcomes of this study can provide data support for provincial cultivated land resource management and decision-making for land utilization. The evaluation results showed that, in landforms part, the plain accounted for the largest in 1-3 grades,4-6 grades highly contained Loess, Plateau and hilly landform, and 7-10 grades mainly landforms were mountains; from irrigation capacity point of view, almost land in 1-3 grades had high irrigation capacity, and there were not have place which with no irrigation capacity. The majority land in 4-6 grades was not satisfied the plants grow, but there were still some areas to meet the above general. The land in 7-10 grades didn’t have much irrigation capacity, the vast majority is not satisfied; from the main nutrient of topsoil, with cultivated land fertility decline, the averages of organic matter, phosphorus and potassium content also declined. Above all, the outcomes of Shanxi cultivated land fertility evaluation is able to guide agricultural production, but also plays an important role in providing the basis data for provincial cultivated land resource management and decision support.
