Toxocariasis caused by Toxocara canis is a zoonotic parasite disease which infects dogs and other animals, including human. To date, little information is available about prevalence and molecular genetics of this parasite in Yiyang of Hunan. Therefore, the objections of the present study were:(i) prevalence of Toxocara canis infection in dogs in Yiyang of Hunan province of China during 2012 to 2014; (ii) sequence variation in internal transcribed space (ITS) rDNA and mitochondrial (mt) cytochrome coxidase subunits 1 (cox1) gene of Toxocara canis:1. The current investigation based on saturation salt solution floating method showed that prevalence of Toxocara canis infection in dogs in Hunan province was 54.9% (229/419).2. The current study illuminated that ivermectin, levamisole and fenbendazole hav e effective treatments on the Toxocara canis of dogs.3. Using molecular biological method to research the polymorphism of internal tra nscribed spacer ribosome DNA (ITS rDNA) and cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1(cox 1) of Toxocara canis, the results showed that the sequences of all 11 sample in ITS-1 rDNA were all 472 bp. The intraspecific similarity rates were from 94.9% to 99. 6% while the interspecific similarity rates were from 57.6% to 76.9%.11 sequences sample in ITS-2 rDNA were all 323 bp and the intraspecific similarity rates were up to more than 99.4%, while the interspecific similarity rates were between 46.7% and 77.4%. For coxl gene, the sequences of all 11 sample were all 460bp and the intr aspecific similarity rates were between 99.3% and 99.8%, while the interspecific simil arity rates were between 85.8% and 88.8%.
