Soil is an important agricultural means of production and ecological environment factors, soil classification is the basis for the development of agricultural and scientific research, but also the urgent need for continuous development of soil science and international standards. Through this study in Hunan Dawei Mountain Area of mountain soils in the field investigation and laboratory analysis, based on the classification of soil in China, strictly on the basis of the "Field soil description and sampling standard", the "Chinese Soil Taxonomy (3rd draft)" and the "Criteria for establishment of soil family and soil series in Chinese Soil Taxonomy" to study area soil taxonomy. The genetic characteristics of typical soil and the soil taxonomy in the region are defined. The main results are as follows:(1) According to retrieval methods and principles of the "Chinese Soil Taxonomy (3rd draft) ", the main diagnostic horizon of Dawei Mountain area's soil in Hunan Province are as follows:umbric epipedon, Ochric epipedon, Cambic horizon, Argic horizon, LAC-ferric horizon, Hydragric horizon, the main diagnostic characteristics are as follows:Soil temperature regimes, Soil moisture regimes, Ferric property, Base saturation, Paralithic contact, Alic evidence, Alic property, Humic property, Gleyic features, Gleyic evidence, etc.(2) According to the corresponding diagnostic horizon and diagnostic characteristics, the 25 typical soil profiles in the Dawei mountain area of Hunan province could be classified 6 orders which are Luvisols, Cambisols, Ferrisols, Entisols, Anthrosols and Gleysols,8 Suborders such as Udic Ferrisols,11 Groups such as Hap-Udic Ferrisols,12 subgroups such as Hum-Hap-Udic Ferrisols.(3) On the basis of "Criteria for establishment of soil family and soil series in Chinese Soil Taxonomy" and combining with the soil characteristics of Dawei Mountain, the basic unit of soil taxonomy of Dawei Mountianin in Hunan province was preliminarily established, those soil profiles could be classified 24 soil families such as Coarse bone loam siliceous mixed hot Ferric Ali-Udic Argosols and 25 soil series such as Liuhuadong series.(4) The main rules of soil altitudinal belts distribution in Dawei Mountain main peak of could be expressed with soil taxonomy Subgroup as:Hapli-Udic Ferrisols, Ali-Udic Argosols, Ferri-Udic Cambosols (Red Soil), Hapli-Perudic Argosols, Ali-Perudic Cambosols (Yellow Soil), Ali-Perudic Argosols, Ali-Perudic Cambosols (Yellow Brown Soil--Meadow Soil).(5) The same subgroup soil of Genetics classification in the Soil taxonomy may be divided into many types of soil, may even in the Soil taxonomy is not the same soil order, after the rules of mountain soil altitudinal belts distribution in Genetics classification expressed by Soil taxonomy, with the majority of soil subgroups appears that one to more. Two kinds of classification systems have no obvious one one corresponding relations.
