Tomato spotted wilt virus(TSWV)is one of the most widely spread vegetable virus and has very strong destructive power. It is on the list of the world's ten most dangerous plant viruses. Moreover, the main media to spread TSWV is thrips, including Frankliniella occidentalis,Frankliniella intonsa,Thrips palmi and Thrips tabaci.Research shows that F.occidentalis has the highest transmission efficiency,F.intonsa ranks the second.Basically,T.palmi and T.tabaci cannot transmit TSWV.However,it is still not clear how the host plants infected by TSWV affect the vector insects. In this study,we focused on F.occidentalis and F.intonsa, the main vectors to spread TSWV.Age-stage,two-sex life table analysis was used to compare growth and development, the population growth of F.occidentalis and F.intonsa after TSWV infected important economic crops Capsicum annuum L.and main model plant Datura stramonium Linn.,providing more theoretical basis for thorough understanding of interaction relationship between thrips and TSWV.The results are as follows:(1)To a certain extent,TSWV promoted the adaptability for both F.occidentalis and F.intonsa parasitic on Capsicum annuum L.and Datura stramonium Linn. This effect was mainly to improve the fecundity of female thrips.TSWV might have relations of mutual benefit with both F.occidentalis and F.intonsa.(2)Originally,the western flower thrips could maintain it's normal population growth on Capsicum annuum L.infected by TSWV increased oviposition amount and reproductive contribution of female thrips,it also shortened the time of pupa stage, along with increased life expectancy of each instar.net reproductive rate(R0),intrinsic rate of increase(r),and finite rate(?).All these significantly accelerated the growth of F.occidentalis populations.(3)Datura stramonium Linn.could only maintain the basic population size of F.occidentalis.Datura stramonium Linn.infected by TSWV improved oviposition amount and reproductive contribution of female thrips,as well as increasing life expectancy of each stage.Furthermore,it enhanced Net reproductive rate(R0),intrinsic rate of increase(r),and finite rate(?),bringing the result that F.occidentalis population increased significantly.(4)Capsicum annuum L.and Datura stramonium Linn.(leaf only)might not be suitable for F.intonsa.Although leaves of both hosts infected by TSWV could shorten the development peroid of larva stage and enhance oviposition amount,it still could not change the situation that F.intonsa cannot maintain the population growth in these two types of host plants.
