Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) forest is one of the most important forests in China, and it has a lot of advantages over other forest types, such as fast growth, wide distribution, and high production. Also, its annual carbon sequestration rate has a positive effect on reducing greenhouse effect and stabilizing carbon balance.Currently, in the background of wood resources shortage and the use of bamboo replacing the wood, site classification and site quality evaluation of Moso bamboo has become a basic work for bamboo forest managment. In this study, we chose Lin'an city in Zhejiang province as a study area. Using the data of forest resource inventory planning and designing, temporary field survey site factors data, volume and aboveground biomass of stand bamboo data and DEM data, and using the method of combining multiple factors and dominant factors, the error-in-variable model and quantitative theory evaluation model, the site classification and site quality evaluation of Moso bamboo had been studied. The results were as follows:(1)Principal component analysis showedranking ofdominant factors in their importancewas: landform, altitude>slope position>soil thickness, aspect. According to the combination of multiple factors and the dominant factor, the site classification system of Moso bamboo forest was established. The forestland in study area was divided into 3 site type districts, 12 site type groups and 70 site types, and existing bamboo forest had 68 site types.(2) Using different elements of bamboo andthe error-in-variable model, the compatible volume and aboveground biomass model system of bamboo were established:The model decision coefficient R2 was 0.9677 and 0.9507, which could be used to estimate the volume and aboveground biomass of Moso bamboo.(3)Based on comparison of stand average DBH, average individual volume, average individual above-ground biomass and dominant bamboo averge DBH,average individual volume, average individual above-ground biomass, dominant bamboo average individual volume was determined as index for Moso bamboo forest site qualityevaluation.(4) Using quantitative theory I, the site quality evaluation model of Moso bambooforest was established:The model has a highsignificant level(P<0.05), so it can not only evaluate the growth status of bamboo forest, but also evaluate the potential productivity of the forest, and forecast the growth of bamboo.(5) Based on the site quality evaluation model, all sites in the study area were divided into five quality levels, named ?,?,?,? and ?. Also, the five quality levels were corresponding to five suitability levels. The distribution of existing Moso bamboo stands in the study area were reasonable, suitable area percentage is 92.04%,and only a small part of them were distributed in less suitable and unfavorable areas.According to the prediction of all forestland in the study area, the suitable area of Moso bamboo planting still has a large development space.
