Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite and an endogenous parasite.Toxoplasmosis caused by this parasite can infect almost all warm-blood animals.About 30%people in the world were infected by T.gondii.In China, there are about 8%people were suffering the infection of toxoplasmosis.Trichinosis caused by Trichinella spiralis is another important zoonosis.Human and many kinds of animals including herbivores could be infected.According to the statistics, about 3.38%people in our country were infected by T.spiralis.Toxoplasmosis and Trichinosis are both important food-borne zoonosis. The breeding industry of herbivores is a traditional and important industry in Xinjiang. This region produced and consumed huge amount of meat and milk from herbivorous animals(horse, cattle and sheep). Therefore it is necessary to carry out this investigation and it has great public health significance.1?Detection of T.gondii among herbivoresSerums from herbivorous animals(409 horses,204 cattle and 47 sheep)were collected. The specific antibodies against T.gondii were tested by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The ELISA test results shows that the positive rate of horse, cattle and sheep are 5.38%,0%and 0%,respectively.Moreover,the further data analysis indicates that the infection of T.gondii in horses is related with the age. With the increase of ages, the infection rate of T.gondii increased.2?Detection of T.spiralis among herbivoresThe infection of T.spiralis in serum samples of herbivorous animals were tested by ELISA.Results showed that the positive rate of horse, cattle and sheep are 3.42%,3.43%and 4.26%,respectively.Further data analysis of the horses indicates that the infection of T.spiralis in horse was not related with the age or sex.3?Detection T.gondii in uterus secretion of abortion horseBy using T.gondii ITS-1 sequence as species-specific genetic markers,PCR method for detection of T.gondii was applied.DNA was extracted from uterus secretion of the abortion horses. The results showed that 10 samples were positive for T.gondii.
