This research selected 11239 soil samples from 107 cities(state, forestry)and counties(city, district, and farm),Hubei province. Then we evaluated the soil properties, soil nutrient, grade distribution and proportion among the entire province. The research also analyzed soil properties, soil nutrient in different farmland use type, landform, arable land, soil nutrient status and content including average, grade distribution and proportion. The main results obtained were reviewed as follows:1)The averages of soil organic matter, total nitrogen, alkali nitrogen, available phosphorus,rapidly-available potassium and pH were 23.2 g/kg,1.32 g/kg,110 mg/kg,13.3 mg/kg,105 mg/kg and 6.4,respectively.The contents of organic matter, total nitrogen, alkali nitrogen and available potassium were slightly lower than the national average, and the available phosphorus content was half of the national average, and pH value was significantly below the national average. These results showed that the cultivated land fertility in Hubei province was below the national average.2)Comparing soil organic matter content of different areas in Hubei,we found higher soil organic matter content in mountain areas than that in plains, and the lowest content in the hills. The content in paddy lands was significantly higher than that in dry lands. The variability of soil organic matter content in Hubei was very low and most of which was belong to the medium or slight lack.3)Soil total nitrogen content in mountain areas were significantly higher than that in plain, and the content in plains slightly exceeded it in hills. The content in paddy field was higher than it in dryland. The variability of total nitrogen content in Hubei was low and most of which was belong to the medium or abundance.4)Soil alkaline nitrogen content in mountain areas were significantly higher than that in hills, and hills was slightly higher than that in plains. The soil alkaline nitrogen content in paddy land was significantly higher than that in dry land. The variability of total nitrogen content in Hubei was low and most of which was belong to the medium or abundance.5)The average of soil available P in mountain areas was significantly higher than that in plains, and the content in plain slightly exceeded it in hills.Dryland was obviously higher than paddy field in soil available P.The soil available phosphorus content was concentrated in a small range, most of which was divided into medium and lack regions.6)The average of soil available K content was significantly higher in mountains than that in hills, and Hills was slightly higher than plain. And dryland was obviously higher than paddy field in soil available K content. The soil available potassium content was slightly concentrated in a small range, most of which was divided into lack and mediumregions.Soil potassium deficiency in Hubei is serious.7)The average of soil pH was lower in mountain areas than hilly region, and plain region tend to be neutral. There was no evident difference in soil pH between paddy field and dryland. The range of soil pH was wide,so that each kind of character soilhad large proportion. But the pH in most soils was meta-acid and appropriate, which showed a tendency to soil acidification in Hubei.Reviewing soil nutrient status and distribution characteristics in Hubei province,we further analyzed the influence factors on soil nutrients status and the existing problems, and then put forward the countermeasures for improving farmland soil fertility.
