Modeling of forest growth is one of the main and underlying technology of forestry informatization.Based on forestry knowledge,applying computer technology,virtual reality(VR)technology,space information technology and modern information infrastructure,a virtual forest environment can be built.In a virtual forest environment,we can simulate tree growth in a variety of different environment,including topography,site conditions(density,canopy density,site quality,etc.),lighting,etc.,to build complex virtual forest scene and express and analysis complex stand growth.Forest management process can be simulated to solve complex problems of forest management and make collaborative decision-making scientifically.It provide services and technical support for forest growth modeling,process modeling and visualization analysis,and will brought new opportunities for exploring the forest growth law and scientific research.Because of the functional diversity,dynamic and cyclical characteristics of forest management,combining graphics with database,develop and apply information systems to research forest growth law and make rational forest management plans.It has important scientific significance and broad application prospects.The main contents of this paper include:(1)In the forest visualization,forest growth model and forest management study three aspects,the status of related fields were summarized and the advantages and disadvantages of relevant research results were compared and analysized.(2)First introduce the construction of a virtual forest environment,including construction method,the principle of a single tree modeling and construction and optimization of 3D terrain.Then describe growth model,the law of the stands structure and research models of stand diameter and tree height structure.Finally thinning classification,methods,techniques and other factors are discussed in detail.(3)Research and summary morphology and growth characteristics of Chinese fir,combine with parameterize individual tree growth models,use a single tree modeling principle to simulate three-dimensional dynamic growth of Chinese fir.On this basis,combining stand diameter,tree height distribution model and growth models,propose simulation algorithms of spatial distribution pattern to simulate spatial distribution of stand structure and growth.Finally taking Zhangping Forest Farm as an example to apply and analysis.(4)Analysis of the relationship between thinning and tree growth,combining with the management density models and thinning timber volume model,considering the relevant technical elements to simulate management of Chinese fir plantation in virtual forest environment.Finally taking Zhangping Forest Farm as an example to apply and analysis.(5)Based on the forest visualization system VisForest,integrating growth model,competition model,dead model,to make visualization of growth simulation and management of Chinese fir plantation.
