Investigation Of Parasitic Infection And Treatment Measures In A Goat Farm In Shaoyang District

The prevalence of parasite infection is one of the main reasons which impair the development of goat breeding in Shaoyang district.In infection of parasites was investigated in a local goat farm from Shaoyang district,and a suspected case with parasites' infection was diagnosed through clinical diagnosis,pathological diagnosis,laboratory observation of worms and eggs and PCR assay,which aimed to confirm the types of parasites.Then,based on the infection,some goats from the same farm were receive treatment with some drugs followed by integrated control of parasite infection in some part of farms near to this case site.The results are as follows: 1 Parasites infection in a local goat farmThrough investigation of the goat farm,more than 50% goats appeared lethargy,anorexia,visible pale mucous,roughened hair coats and other symptoms.One goat lied on one's back,almost no appetite,and died.Combination the above clinic symptoms,the herd was initially suspected as infection with parasites.A total of 20 fecal samples were randomly collected to check parasite eggs.The results showed that eggs of Fasciola hepatica and Paramphistomum were observed in 12 of the samples;in 3 stool samples,only eggs of Fasciola hepatica were observed,and only eggs of Paramphistomum were observed in another 4 samples;1 case showed no any parasite eggs.Further use of allergy tests revealed that 8 goats were allergic to positive results,1 goat were suspected positive,and the rest were negative.2 Diagnosis of infection of parasites in a case of dead goatThe clinical diagnosis showed that the abdomen of the dead goat was expanded with high elasticity.Drum noise was heard through beating,the four hoofs were injured and perineum was swelling.Pathological diagnosis showed that some livor mortis was observed in the in skin.There was edema in the left hind leg,abdominal swelling,spherical vesicular mesostenium with egg size in ruminal tympany,black nodules in liver with necrotic foci in cut sections.A large amount of blue purples were found in hilar lymph nodes.Red meat flake worms were observed in the bile duct,gall bladder and liver parenchyma.A large number of red meat insect bodies were also found in rumen gastric mucosa.Further laboratory diagnosis revealed that worms and eggs isolated from mesostenium were cysticercus tenuicollis;worms on the ruminal mucosa were Paramphistomum,and flaky bodies isolated from the liver were the Fasciola hepatica which was also confirmed by PCR assay.A random fecal examination of goat revealed a parasitic infection in this flock.Combination the results from 1 and 2,the herd was infected three types of parasites,and the death of the goat was a result of long-term infection due to nutrients efficiency with impaired organ function,poor pregnancy and feeding management.3 Preventive and treatment of parasite infectionSome goats were randomly selected from the goat farm for anthelmintic treatment.After investigation,the medicine named Bai Chong Tong Mie was chosen to treat the mixed infection in the present case,other medicines based on the clinic symptoms were also used.The selected infected goats were divided into two groups,one group did not receive any treatment as control,and the other group was treated with the drug of Bai Chong Tong Mie.With treatment of the drug,number of worm eggs was decreased after 2 months,and the average body weight gain was significantly increased after 90 d of treatment(P < 0.05).Through following the untreated goats,there was a seasonal change in the examination in worm eggs,the egg number began to increase during March and April,and reached a peak between May and July,then decreased month by month,and reached the lowest level in December until to the next February.Similar treatment measures were also applied in several other local goat farms.The production performance of goats was significantly improved,and good economic results were also obtained.In conclusion,mixed infection with Fasciola hepatica,cysticercus tenuicollis and Paramphistomum were diagnosed in goats of a local goat farm of Shaoyang District.Good treatment effect could achieve through using the treatment with drug of Bai Chong Tong Mie.The related data can provide clinical reference data for the infection and prevention of goat parasites in Shaoyang District,improve the sheep's production performance and economic benefits.
