There are several hypotheses about the potential etiological factor and pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Among them, amyloid precursor protein (APP) metabolic desorder, beta-amyloid protein (a-beta) as the core of senile plaque abnormal deposition are widely accepted in the academic world. In 1994,sparks[1] reported intakes of high cholesterol diet would increase the A? deposits in brain tissue of rabbits.Research over the past two decades provided a mechanistic link between cholesterol and AD pathogenesis. Altered neuronal membrane cholesterol level and/or subcellular distribution have been implicated in aberrant formation, aggregation, toxicity, and degradation of A ?-related peptides. Based on epidemiological and basic medical research suggests high cholesterol is associated with AD, people started a wide range of drug study, particularly Statins to reduce cholesterol and on the efficacy of AD. This article will provide an Review of the above-mentioned content.
