Objective Complement system is a group of serum glycoprotein which had been discovered in 19th century. It is usually located in serum tissue fluid and surface of cell membrane, composed of complement natural ingredients, complement control components and complement receptor. Complement C7 is a 93-kDa serum glycoprotein encoded by C7 gene. In the formation of membrane attack complex; C7 is the next component to bind the C5b-6 complex forming a tri-molecular complex C5b-7 which is lipophilic, resembles an integral membrane protein, and serves as an anchor for the late complement components, C8 and C9. A recent study reported that C7 has a relatively relevance with cancer, especially in pancreatic cancer and liver cancer However the role of C7 in lung cancer was largely unknown.Method This study was aim to investigate whether C7 expression could be a characteristic of non-small cell lung cancer, we got all the specimens from Cancer Hospital. Stored in liquid nitrogen. extracted mRNA, tumor tissues from173 Patients were selected. using quantitative real-time-PCR, immunohistochemistry and western-blot to detection the expression of C7. The relationships between the C7 expression level and clinical data were also been analyzed.Result We found that C7 is gradually lower in normal lung tissues, para-carcinoma tissues and tumor tissues as detected by RT-PCR. We make a further study to observe the relationship between C7 and clinical pathological features, as well as prognosis. The patient who with a lower expression of C7 has a poor prognosis in overall-survival and disease-free survival. Conclusion Our data indicates that complement C7 is lower-expressed in malignant lung tissues compared with that normal lung tissues and suggested that complement C7 may play as an inhibitor factor in the progress of NSCLC.
