The key issue to the development of traditional Chinese medicines is to elucidate effective substance of preparations of traditional Chinese medicines. The effective substances of preparations will affect the rationality and the clinical curative effects directly. In order to develop new Chinese medicine preparations and make traditional Chinese medicine modernization, chemical constituents and related efficacy material base of Chinese medicines should be elucidated clearly, which will ensure the preparations to be highly active, safe, stable, controllable, and convenient, and supply scientific evidence to develop the Chinese medicines.Tussilago farfara L., belonging to the Asteraceae family, is distributed in Asia, Europe and North Africa. In China, the main place of origin is in Yulin, Shanxi. The flower buds of T. farfara L. are dried buds, and the major parts of medicine are used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of the lungs under the gas, cough and phlegm. At present, the research on the flower buds of T. farfara L. revealed the chemical constituents and pharmacological activityIn our investigation on the flower buds of T. farfara L.,10 compounds were isolated from the methanol extract of the flower buds of T. farfara L., using chromatography methods, such as silica gel c.c, MPLC, HPLC. On the basis of spectral data and physic -chemical evidences, the structures of the 10 compounds were identified as following:3-acetyl-[2-angeloyloxyl]-4-hydroxyl methyl benzoate (1),3,4-epoxy-1,8-diangeloyloxybisabola-7(14)-10-dien-2-one (2), 14-acetoxy-7?-(4-methylsenecioyloxyl)-1 a-(2'-methylbutyryloxy)-notonipetranone (3), tussilagonone (4),6-acetyl-2,2-dimethylchroman-4-one (5),7[3-angeloyloxy-14-hydroxy-notonipetranone (6),6-acetyl-7-hydroxy-2,3-dimethylchromone (7), oplopanone (8), ligucyperonol (9), tussilagone (10). Among them, compound 1 is a new compound, and compounds 2,5,8,9 were isolated from the flower buds of T. farfara L. for the first time.In the research, the crafts preliminary which the ethanol extract of the flower buds of T. farfara L. prepared into capsules was also studied. Desirable to provide a reliable reference for the preparation of the flower buds of T. farfara L.
