Objective: To evaluate the currently nonsurgical treatments of anterior open biteMethods: An adult with anterior bite admitted to orthodontics apartment of Dalian Medical university affiliated Dalian stomatological hospital in 2014 was selected. The patient was a 24 years adult female, skeletal class ? with average Frankfort-mandibular plane angle. Her profile was straight with the slightly longer 1/3 face height.Class I molar relationship on left and Class ? molar relationship on right. The anterior open bite is 2mm,The relationship of is cross bite. The upper incisors are flared more than normal. The upper dental midline shifted to right by 1mm.The patient's upper dental arch had 3mm crowding with insufficient width and the lower dental arch had 2mm crowding. The Spee curve depth is 0.5mm.The panoramic film showed that the 28,38,48 were found, the crowns of these tooth are smaller, the roots of those tooth are shorter than normals. The 38,48 were low mesioangular impaction. The 36 had root canal theraphy and full crown prosthesis. The mandibular molars were inclinated mesially The patient had tongue thrusting and her tongue is bigger than her mouth space and tongue tie.Bilateral temporomandibular join is licking but no tenderness, the degree and the style of mouth opening are normal. The patient thought her anterior were not biting and affected the function and aesthetic,so she wanted to solove this problem.According the analysis results: chosing nonsurgical treatment;extracted 28,38,48,fixed appliance, levelling and alignment of the arches by the wires, coordination the width of upper and lower dental arch;using rocking-chair archwire to upright the molars and posterior bite blocks to intruse molars, with Class?elastics soloving open bite.Wire bending for finishing adjustment and wearing vacuumformed retainer. To analyze the results of the pre-treatment and post-treatment.Result: The treatment duration was 19 months. Both the upper and the low tooth wre aligned and leveled. The width of upper and lower dental arch was coordination. The upper dental midline is in centric. The crowding of both dentures was relieved.Cross bite is relievied.Anterior relationship became normal overbite and overjet. The molar relationship was built with Class I relationship.Tooth were not rotated.Profile was still straight. The mentolabial sulcus was more harmonious.Tongue habit had been corrected. The bilateral joints clicking was improved.Comparison the results of the pretreatment and post-treatment cephalometric:(1)Both the maxillary and the mandibular incisors were retracted slightly,U1-NA° reduced 4.2°,L1-NB°reduced 3.7°.(2)The angle of the mandibular plane(MP-SN)reduced1.5°,the patient's mandibular did the counterclockwise rotation.(3)The molar were distal uprighted. Conclusion: Openbite is a common clinical malocclusion,it seriously affects the patient's functionality and aesthetics. The managements of the anterior open bite are various, and nonsurgical managements can reached satisfactory results successful treatment of anterior open bite greatly relies on removing causes, properly diagnosis and therapeutics and well retaining.
