The term of open bite is refered to the anterior open bite in most cases. The open bite is a kind of malocclusion that is difficult to be treated orthodonticly and easy to relapse, although its prevalence is low. The etiologic factors is very important for the openbite as well as for all other malocclusions, in that they decide the difficulty of openbite treatment, the effect of the treatment and the stability after Orthodontic treatment in a large degree. It is a key factor to treat openbite sucessfully whether the treatment plan is based on the etiologic factors and whether the etiologic factors is removed after treatment. Therefore, the etiologic factors of openbite have been studied for a long time, and the size of the tongue is always regarded as a factor that is correlative to openbite. It has been hypothesized that a large tongue leads to openbite by lots of Orthodontists, such as Tulley, Proffit, Norton and so on. The large tongue size would make the tongue posture more anteriorly in the rest position. And it could bring about a slight continuous force to the dental arch, which would cause open bite malocclusion. This idea seems to be accepted widely, and some method for...
