Objective:To explore the relationship between plasma CXCL12 levels with neurologic impairment degree (NIHSS score) and prognosis (mRS score) in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods:The plasma CXCL12 levels of 185 patients with acute cerebral infraction (cerebral infraction group) and 123 health people (control group) were detected by enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA). The patients with acute cerebral infraction were scored by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). The relativity between the plasma CXCL12 levels and the NIHSS scores were analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis. According to the mRS scores, the patients in the cerebral infraction group were divided into the good outcome subgroup (mRS score 0-2) and the poor outcome subgroup (mRS score 3-6). The plasma CXCL12 levels between the two subgroups were compared, and then multiple Logistic regression analysis was taken. Results:The plasma CXCL12 level in cerebral infraction group [(3.75±1.40) μg/ml] was significantly higher than that in control group [(0.96±0.67) μg/ml] (P<0.01). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the plasma CXCL12 level in cerebral infraction group was negative correlated with the NIHSS score on admission (r=-0.857, P<0.01). The plasma CXCL12 level in good outcome subgroup [(4.56±1.24) μg/ml] was significantly higher than that in poor outcome subgroup [(2.75±0.84) μg/ml] (P<0.01). The Logistic regression analysis show that the increase of plasma CXCL12 level was the independent protective factor for the poor prognosis (OR=0.416,95%CI:0.225-0.768,P=0.005).Conclusion:The plasma CXCL12 level is increased, which is the independent protective factor for the poor prognosis. It can be used as an important biological marker to evaluate the prognosis of acute cerebral infarction.
