| Background. In order to restore the original function of the hip joint,We suggest surgical treatment as early as possible for elder patients with hip disease patients. And it also will let the elderly patients live a higher quality of life after surgery, avoid complication caused by long-term beding, such as decubitus, pneumonia, and deep venous thrombosis, which threaten the safety of patient’ life.the characteristics of elder patient can be listed as follows:1.The Osteoporosis was in common. And there was a high rate of femoral neck fracture.2.Those patients are usually combined with multiple system diseases. It is hard for them to survive from surgery.3.Some patients were even combined with nervous system diseases, such as Parkinson, cerebral infarction and so on,leading to muscle atrophy around the hip joint. The rate of dislocation was very high,if we treated with conventional hip prosthesis. And the clinical outcomes of hemiarthroplasty was not satisfied in a long term follow-up.To improve the clinical outcomes of THA in the elderly patients,we try to use Durom large diameter head of metal-on-metal articulation for THA from jul 2007 to mar 2012.Objective.To discuss the clinical outcomes after total hip arthroplasty with Durom large diameter head of metal-on-metal articulation in elderly(>75 years old)Patients.Methods.50 patients undergoing THA using Durom LDH of MOM articulation were reviewed from jul 2007 to mar 2012.Standard AP view and lateral roentgenographic views of bilateral hips. The clinical results were evaluated according to Harris Hip Score.Results.The average age of patients was 80±4.88 years old at the time of surgery,Their follow-up time is 45.5 months(32-93 months). There is no dislocation, asceptic loosening, osteolysis and inflammatory pseudotumor in this group during the follow-up time.Conclusion.The clinical outcomes of Durom LDH of MOM articulation were satisfactory in elderly(>75 years old)Patients. And there was no dislocation, asceptic loosening, osteolysis and inflammatory pseudotumor during this group. |
