Objective Compared the early clinical effect of the treatment of pedicle screw fixation and Wallis system on the lumbar degenerative diseases。Methods From January 2011 to January 2013, In our hospital 21 patients of the lumbar degenerative diseases with the treatment of the Wallis system were retrospective analyzed, the other 21 cases with the pedicle screws fix ation as the contrast group. The differences of gender. age. disease segments and severity preoperative are no significant. The visual analogue scale(VAS) and Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA)scores were recorded before oper ation and 6 months after operation so as to evaluate the curative effect. The operative segment disc height(DH)and range of motion(ROM)of adjacent seg ment were evaluated preoperatively and at the follow-up of 6 months posto peratively. Results Preoperatively, there were no significant differences between the VA S scale.JOAscores.DH of operative segment.ROM of adjacent segment during the two groups. Postoperatively the symptoms and signs of the two groups were obviously improved,VAS scale and JOAscores and there was no statisti cally significant difference between VAS scale and JOA scores (P>0.05),But the DH and ROM of the cases with Wallis system 6 months after operatio n showed significantly better than these with pedicle screw fixation(P<0.05).Conclusion On the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases Pedicle screws and Wallis system both can be able to obtain good clinical curative effect, But Wallis system can delay the height loss of operative segment、maintai n the intervertebral stability and is one of the better methods to cure the di sease.
