Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics of patients with papillary thyroid micro-carcinoma treated in thyroid and breast surgery department of our hospital in recent three years. At the same time, to determine the effect of the risk factors of the lymphatic metastasis, and to screen patients who need surgical intervention to and reduce unnecessary surgical trauma and excessive treatment. Methods: From Jan. 2010 to Dec. 2012, all the clinical data of 90 patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma, who underwent central compartment lymph node dissection in our Hospital were reviewed and analyzed. Eliminating these patients, who has the family history of thyroid cancer, ray exposure history, recurrent tumor and malignant tumor which was transferred from other parts to thyroid. The object were into CLNM positive group and CLNM negative group according to postoperative pathology results. To explore gender, age of onset, ultrasound and pathology results, which influence the CLNM of PTMC.Results: The incidence of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma has been increasing for the last 3 years. Statistical analysis showed that the multiple lesions(P=0.038), maximum tumor diameter > 5mm(P=0.013), micro calcification(P=0.018) and enlarged cervical lymph nodes(P=0.000) founded in ultrasound were related to lymph node metastasis in PTMC patients. Nevertheless, the gender, age, with thyroid benign diseases were not significantly related to the presence of central lymph node metastasis. Conclusion: The incidence of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma(PTMC) has increased in the past 3 years. Multiple lesions, maximum tumor diameter > 5 mm and ultrasound findings micro calcifications within the nodule and lymph node enlargement was associated with central lymph node metastasis.
