Objective To assess the coagulation state of healthy pregnant women in late third trimester by thrombelastography(TEG) and conventional coagulation tests and to investigate the correlations between the two methods in determining the blood coagulation. Methods A total of 115 pregnant women in late third trimester and 20 healthy non-pregnant women were enrolled,For each women standard coagulation test were assessed. At the same time we performed a thrombelastographic test with Hemoscope TEG after sample recalcification with using kaolin activator. Results The reaction time( R) and prothrombin formation time( K) in late third trimester were significantly shorter than those in the controls, while the ? angle(clot formation rate), MA(maximum amplitude) and CI(coagulation index) were significantly higher in pregnant women(P<0.01). Compared with non-pregnant women, pregnant women in late third trimester showed Shorter PT, APTT and higher Fbg concentration, less platelet count(P<0.01).There were correlations between the TEG and conventional coagulation tests. The R times was positively correlated with the APTT(r=0.255,p<0.01),K wasnegatively correlated with PLT(r=-0.396,p<0.01).K was positively correlated with ?(r=0.356,p<0.05). PLT and Fbg were positively correlated with the MA respectively(r=0.331;r=0.433,p<0.01). The sensitivity to detect hypercoagulable state with R is higher than APTT(P<0.01). ??MA can better refleact platelets function in haemostatic system. Conclusions Normal pregnant women in late third trimester presents a significant hypercoagulable state;there were significant correlation between some of the TEG parameter and conventionnal coagulation tests; TEG is an useful indicator for accessing and monitoring the hypercoagulable state of pregnant women in late third trimester.
