Objective: To investigate variation of biochemical indexes after ESWL(extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy) and confirm the correlation between the renal injury and such indexes. To provide objective evidence for the early prediction of renal injury after ESWL and the development of the treatment plan. Methods: 62 patients diagnosed as kidney stones were taken out to retrospective analyze differences of five periods(12h,24 h,48h,1w,2w). we detected the levels of serum Cys C and BUN,urine NGAL and ?2-MG.Results: There were no difference between the shock number 2000-2500 and 2500-3000.The level of urine NGAL were obviously increased on 12 h,24h,48 h and 1w, the results were significantly different(P<0.05).The value of 12 h was significant higher,24h?48h and 1w has begun decreasing. NGAL returned to normal level after two weeks(P>0.05),its value was not statistically significant. Cys C were also sensitive during the periods of postoperative 12h, 24h hand 48h(P<0.05), its value returned to normal level after one week(P>0.05).?2-MG did not change before and after ESWL(P>0.05).Although BUN slightly elevated, there were no significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusion: The indexes of NGAL and Cys C were sensitive to evaluate renal injury after ESWL, especially during the periods of postoperative 12 h, 24 h, 48 h and 1w. NGAL returned to normal after two weeks. Cys C were also sensitive on 12h, 24h hand 48h, but returned to normal level after one week. The peak of NGAL appeared earlier in 12h, and Cys C appeared in 48h. There were not be obvious correlation between the renal injury with ?2-MG and BUN. Shock number(2000-3000) was not s hown correlation with renal injury.
