Objective:In recent years,the incidence of Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease(HFMD)has been constituting a threat to human health in Suzhou.The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiological features and regulation of HFMD in Suzhou and provide scientific evidence for making appropriate prevention measures.Methods:We collected the basic informationand epidemic reporting informationof patients with HFMD in Suzhou Shishan Street from May 2013 to June 2015 through the National Disease Reporting Information System.We investigated the demographic characteristicsof the whole population in Shishan street from the police station.Through checked the disease reporting information,finally the basic information of 465 cases of HFMDwere obtained from May 2013 to June 2015.Analysis the data and describe the distribution by people,time and place(commonly known as three-dimension distribution),transmission characteristics and clinical features of HFMD.Database was built by Epidata(version 3.1)and all the questionnaires were checked by double-entry.The statistical analyses were perfromed by SPSS(version 16.0).The significant level was ?= 0.05 and P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:From May 2013 to June 2015,465 cases of HFMD were occured in Shishan Street.There were 309 males and 156 females with a ratio of 1.98: 1.The minimum age of onset was 0.4 yearsold and the maximum age of onset was 14.0 years old.The average age was 3.92 years old,and mainly concertrated in 1-5 years old.The HFMD cases were occurred at all year rounds,however the disease has a high incidence of seasonal phenomenon.The peak of incidence mainly concentrated from May to July and there was a small peak from October to November.Cases have been found all the residential areas.However,the occurrence of diseasemainly concentrated in the densely populated and relativelyhigh mobility community(the incidence of HFMDwere 8.6%,6.2%,7.7%,12.3%and 8.0% in Golden district,Maple,Xinshengxingyuan,Xintai and SunshineHoliday,respectively).223 cases(48.8%)have participated in group events within 7 days before the onset.There were 196 scattered children(42.9%)and 227 kindergarten children(49.3%)among all afflicted children.Poor personal health habits,such as not washing hands before meals or after toilet,contribute to the spread of the disease.Children who do not wash hand before meals or after toilet accounts for 63.4% of all cases.The clinical manifestations of HFMD were fever and eczema.Moreover,there are 261 cases of fever(57%)and 439 cases of eczema(96.1%),of which mainly concentrated in the hands,feet and mouth,and 99.6% of the rash were herpes.All the 24 cases(5.2%)with complications were brainstem encephalitis.Conclusion:From May 2013 to June 2015,a total of 465 cases of HFMD were found in Shishan Streetwhich mainly occurred in children under 5 years old.The occurence of cases had a certain seasonal pattern,the peak of incidence mainly concentrated from May to July and a small peak was from October to November.Children who participated in group activities and have poor personal health habits contributed to the spread of the disease.Our results provided the evidence that the relevant epidemic prevention institutions should enhancedmonitor and strengthen the pre-epidemic protection before epidemic season.
