ObjectiveTo explore the risk factors related to recent ischemic cerebral events in carotid stenosis patients.MethodsA total of 169 carotid stenosis patients of Neurosurgery Department of Second Affiliated Hospital to Medical College of Zhejiang University receiving operation were recruited for a retrospective analysis from January 2013 to September 2016.Among these patients,84 patients conformed to the inclusion criteria of ischemic cerebral events group(experimental group),and 28 patients conformed to the inclusion criteria of non-ischemic cerebral events group(matched group).Age,sex,BMI,history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, smoking and drinking, level of blood glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride,HDL and LDL,degree of carotid stenosis, degree of intraplaque neovascularization, intraplaque hemorrhage, left ventricular hypertrophy were analyzed.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed to assess the relationships among various variables and recent ischemic cerebral events.ResultsCompared with matched group,Patients of experimental group had significantly higher degree of intraplaque neovascularization(p=0.030).Though experimental group had more patients with severe stenosis and occlusion than matched group(78.57%vs 60.71%),there was no significantly difference between two groups(p=0.289).Other factors such as Age,sex,BMI,history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, smoking and drinking, intraplaque hemorrhage, left ventricular hypertrophy, level of blood glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride,HDL and LDL had no significant difference between two groups(p>0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis also showed the independent risk factors of recent ischemic cerebral events was degree of intraplaque neovascularization(p=0.011,95%CI=1.313-7.957).ConclusionsIn carotid stenosis patients, degree of intraplaque neovascularization is associated with recent ischemic cerebral events significantly, while other factors such as age, sex, history of smoking, level of blood glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride,LDL and so on are not.
