The quality evaluation of higher education is the key to raise the quality of education and deepen the reform of higher education.It is the core measure and the lifeline of the construction and development of colleges and universities,which is the major issue generally concerned by the world government and society.At present,the research direction in this field has shifted from the evaluation system of the school or decision maker’s value,which regards input index and the rigid condition as the core,to the intrin sic quality evaluation system which emphasizes the education process and the student’s principal role.The theory of student engagement is the representative theory of "student-oriented" internal quality evaluation system.It is a new perspective of higher education evaluation in our country and has been highly praised and concerned by numinous experts and scholars of higher education.This study is based on the theory of student engagement,taking the health service curriculum of military medical university as the research carrier,and using the thinking and methods of the national survey of student engagement(NSSE)to design the "student engagement of undergraduate students in military medical university questionnaire on health service curriculum",to define the seven connotation dimensions of student engagement of undergraduate medical students in military medical university,namely " active cooperative learning level "," teacher-student interaction level "," professional education experience degree "," the degree of education experience beyond major "," the students’ interpersonal relationship level "," the comprehensive support level of inst itutions " and " the academic challenge level ",thus investigating the students’ engagement of the undergraduate students in military medical university on the health service course teaching.By combing the survey data,we contrastively analysis the stude nts’ engagement level of military medical undergraduates: Compared with the norm data,we found that as the changing needs of health service with the military operation,the applicability and practicalness are extremely strong,while students do not have r elevant foundation,there are phenomena as low level of initiative cooperation and teacher-students interaction but high academic level.Comparing different achievement levels,the students rank in the middle showed better abilities of initiative cooperation learning and teacher-student interaction in the course of health service,and they felt the support of the institutions to their study at most;the top 20% students relative lack of the interaction with others and the institutions;while the latter 20% students affecting the student engagement of the eternity course according to the unsatisfactory achievements,moreover,their interpersonal level was significantly lower.Compared with different working experience,we found that those students who have the backbone working experience of Platoon and Commander showed better teacher-student interaction and richer education experience beyond major than other students without cadre experience,which also felt more difficult to learn in health service course;the students who have the class backbone experience are relative showed moderation,that is good teacher-student interaction,academic pressure is not high,and the education experience beyond major is less than those Platoon and Commander backbone students.Compared with different majors,the student engagement on health service course of clinical medicine students was the lowest among the majors,mainly reflected in the level of active cooperative learning and teacher-student interaction.The interpersonal relationship problem of students in plateau medicine is slightly prominent.Simultaneously,biomedical engineering students need pay attention to the academic challenge.According to the findings of the survey,we put forward the following countermeasures and suggestions: First,the main body of the teaching management in the institutions should play the key role: to clarify the position of military medical talents,to emphasize the military nature of teaching objectives;to design the system of military courses,emphasizing the relevance of teaching content;health service courses should match the professional features,emphasizing the appropriateness of the teaching focus;teaching management should in-depth of student life,emphasizing the practicality of teaching management;all-round rich learning experience,emphasizing the comprehensive nature of teaching areas.Second,the implementation of the main courses of teaching should first carry out useful exploration: to learn advanced teaching experience of military courses,enriching the classroom teaching form;expanding the interactive platforms with characteristics of military disciplines,widening the professional display windows.Third,the students self-management should identify the key focus followed by initiative force: focusing on the communication with others,establishing harmonious interpersonal relationships to support the student engagement;focusing on the rich experience,enriching the comprehensive experience to support student engagement;focusing on the learning methods,using appropriate learning methods to promote student engagement.This study introduces the concept of "student-oriented" teaching quality into the military medical university.In ensuring the prerequisite of guaranteeing the reliability and validity,we,for the first time,put forward the student engagement method of single course for the quality evaluation of the specific courses in military academy.Through exploratory factor analysis and based on the original five core indicators of the student engagement survey,the seven dimensions of student engagement of military medical university with the background of a single course was formatted,which made the investigation tool more in line with the fact of military medical university.This tool could not only be used to evaluate the quality of single course in military medical university,but also provide a new scientific method for the evaluation and reform of course quality in teaching evaluation of military medical university.
