| Anti-arthritis effects of extracts from Spatholobi Caulis were studied on gouty arthritis mouse, knee osteoarthritis mouse, and knee osteoarthritis rat. The following results were obtained:Anti-gouty arthritis effects of water extract are better than ethanol extract; the water extract can decrease joint swelling in above three model animals; catechin is an active component for anti-gouty arthritis mouse; the catechin content in water extract is higher than in ethanol extract.The MMPs content in living knee osteoarthritis mouse was detected with fluorescence molecular tomography and the MMP-3 level in serum of the model mouse was determined. The results indicated that water extract from Spatholobi Caulis could decrease the MMPs content in living knee osteoarthritis mouse and the MMP-3 level in serum of the model mouse.Orthogonal design was utilized to optimize the preparing conditions including the amount of water, extraction times, and extraction duration per time when catechin was selected as the evaluation index. The optimum extraction process was to extract three times using tenfold water and 1.5h per time. |
