Purpose:This study investigated the risk factors of exudative retinal detachment(ERD)occurring after pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)for proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).Methods:All patients who had been treated with PPV for PDR at the Fundus Department of the second hospital of Jilin University between December 2015 and December2016 were included in this study.Patients who underwent ocular surgery except phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation and retinal laser photocoagulation were excluded.Other exclusion criteria include past history of ocular trauma, systemic diseases, ocular diseases, uveitis, scleritis, tumor or congenital ocular disorders, etc. Results:During this period,160 eyes of 127 patients matched the inclusion criteria,of whom 17(10.63%)developed ERD and exudative choroidal detachment after a median time of 2 days(1–3 days).Included were 76 eyes of 61 men(47.5 %)and 84 eyes of 66 women(52.5%).Mean age was 51.5 years(21–74 years).Binary Logistic regression showed that lower serum albumin concentration(P=0.017),shorter axial length(P = 0.013),and history of phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation(P=0.032)were associated with incidence of ERD.No association was found in history of intravitreal anti-VEGF drugs injection before PPV,systolic pressures, diastolic pressures,PRP,intraocular pressure on postoperative day one and postoperative day two, serum albumin concentration, and blood urea nitrogen. Conclusion:The risk factors for ERD include lower serum albumin concentration, shorter axial length and history of phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation after PPV for PDR.
