Background:After over a half century’s efforts,Oral and maxillofacial surgery in China has come from birth to maturity.The classification,composition,diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial surgery diseases are constantly changing in the process of development.With the improvement of social economic level,People pay more and more attention to oral problems after the reform and opening up.The development trend of oral diseases has become a hot point of study.Objective:To explore the types and variation trends of major disease constitution of inpatients with oral and maxillofacial surgery.Also the evolution process of inpatient’s disease spectrum will be analyzed.The study provides data reference for the clinical and scientific research of medical workers.It will fill the vacancy in the study of oral disease spectrum in southern Liaoning province.Methods:The clinical data of 9617 in-patients with oral and maxillofacial surgery in the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from January 1,2002 to December 31,2015 were retrospectively analyzed.Result:1.The total number of 9617 in-patients were admitted to the ward of oral and maxillofacial surgery,male to female ratio was 1.5:1 and the average age of patients was 44.3 ± 19.7 years old.The number of inpatients increased year by year.2.Maxillofacial tumor(3259 cases,33.8%),salivary gland disease(2754 cases,28.6%)and maxillofacial trauma(2420 cases,25.2%)ranked the top three disease types.Compared 2012-2015 with 2002-2005,the proportion of patients with maxillofacial tumors and salivary gland diseases increased by 5.9%and 2.8%respectively.However,the proportion of patients with maxillofacial trauma and cleft lip and palate showed a downward trend.3.The top ten diseases of inpatients were fracture,pleomorphic adenoma,cyst of jaw.remove the’ internal fixation of jaw(fractures and tumors in postoperative),warthin tumor,soft tissue injury,lymphadenitis,mucocele,space infection,hemangioma.The proportion of patients with tumor(5076 cases)in hospitalized patients was 52.8%.Nine of the top fifteen disease spectrum were tumors.4.The male to female ratio of maxillofacial trauma was 3.77:1.Traffic accident,fight affray and fall injury the top three causes of maxillofacial trauma.The most common fracture sites were mandible,zygomatic and maxilla.The male to female ratio of maxillofacial fracture was 4:1 and the average number of fracture site is 1.6.5.The ratio of benign and malignant tumors was 2.20:1.Jaw cyst(613 cases)and tongue cancer(177 cases)were the most common benign and malignant tumors of maxillofacial region respectively.The proportion of malignant lymphoma in malignant tumor after tongue cancer,the main location is neck and parotid gland.6.The ratio of benign and malignant in 1817 cases of salivary gland tumors was 5.9:1.Pleomorphic adenoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma were the most common benign and malignant tumors,respectively.Parotid gland is the most common site of salivary gland tumors and the proportion of benign and malignant tumors is 81.5%,59.5%,respectively.Conclusion:1.The number of hospitalized patients with maxillofacial surgery increased year by year.The youth group(15~44 years old)patients ranked first and the average age was higher than that in Shenzhen and other southern regions.The age distribution of patients is closely related to the population structure of Dalian,which is different from other regions.2.The main types of diseases were maxillofacial tumor,salivary gland disease and maxillofacial trauma.The proportion of tumor patients was the largest and showed an upward trend.The proportion of patients with maxillofacial trauma decreased year by year,which was related to the improvement of traffic environment.3.The disease composition of inpatients with maxillofacial surgery in Dalian is different from that in first-tier cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.There were significant differences in the disease spectrum of inpatients in different regions and levels of medical institutions.4.The inpatient’ s composition of maxillofacial tumors,salivary gland diseases and trauma is consistent with the relevant reports in domestic.
