Research On Academic Ideology Of Chen Xunzhai For Treating Febrile Diseases

Chen Xunzhai,who is the seventh-generation descendant of Chen Xiuyuan(a famous expert in treating febrile diseases in Qing Dynasty),had been outstanding in practicing Chinese classical medical prescriptions in Nanjing and Chongqing cities in the 1930s and 1940s.And he had established the "Xunzhai Traditional Chinese Medicine Mansion" and had medical lectures in Nanjing city in the 1940s.He was expertise in the collection and study of Treatise on Febrile Diseases and authored of Correcting and Annotating of Treatise on Febrile Diseases and New Chinese Materia Medica.For Correcting and Annotating of Treatise on Febrile Diseases,there were the annotations made in the light of the clause sequence or correcting the wrong words rather than breaking the original structure of Treatise on Febrile Diseases.The crucial characteristic of this book is emphasis of the connection between the medical theories and clinical practices.The book of New Chinese Materia Medica was illustrated about researches of traditional Chinese pharmacology including 93 herbs.All his common used medicines had edited by imitating Shennong’s Herbal.It aimed to avoid some complex medicinal using which was convenient for the beginner learning.All the herbs in this book were found in Treatise on Febrile Diseases(65 herbs)and Synopsis of Golden Chamber authored by Zhang Zhongjing.The main academic ideology of Chen Xunzhai were:1)the febrile diseases discussed in broad sense;2)the six channels dominated the numerous diseases;3)the pulse methods created by Zhang Zhongjing corresponded with the eight principal syndromes;4)the emphasis of body fluid conservation;5)the concise explanations of Chinese classic medical ideology and combining them with the western medicine.The academic origin of Chen who had paid more attention the academic viewpoint of "body fluid conservation" and stood ground of old theory was inherited from his ancestor Chen Xiuyuan.However,Chen had used common western medical terminologies to annotate Treatise on Febrile Diseases in his book of Correcting and Annotating of Treatise on Febrile Diseases.And there were many western medical terminologies of anatomy,physiology,pathology,diagnostics and pharmacology in another book of New Chinese Materia Medica.The obvious time feature of explanation for Chinese medicine by referred western medicine in his publications were similar with the contemporary doctors such as Zhang Xichun,Lu Yuanlei and Yun Tieqiao.The clinical medicinal experience for Chen was reflected in the book of New Chinese Materia Medica.And the medicinal experience and medical cases in this book had much research value.In addition,Medical Notes of Chen Xunzhai published by Dai Zhili had recorded some Chen’s viewpoints on medicine,prescriptions and syndrome differentiation,which was the important literature introducing the Chen’s clinical thinking.For the clinical practice,Chen was good at the medicine property and syndrome differentiation flexibly.Meanwhile,the classic Chinese prescriptions were used skillfully and unconstrainedly.
