| Objective: To explore the relationship between glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c)and Homeostasis model assessment of βcell function index(HOMA-β)in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods: According to the level of HbA1 c,total 162 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes were classified into HbA1 c < 7.0% group(60patients),7%≤HbA1c≤9% group(52 patients)and HbA1 c > 9% group(50cases),51 patients with normal glucose tolerance(NGT)were as control group,with fasting blood glucose,postprandial 2 hours blood glucose,fasting insulin,postprandial 2 hours insulin to calculated HOMA-β,insulin sensitivity index(ISI),Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR),to explore the relationship between HbA1 c and HOMA-βin newly diagnosed type2 diabetes mellitus with the correlation regression analysis.Results: In newly diagnosed T2 DM patients,with HbA1 c increases,fasting plasma glucose(FPG)increased(P < 0.05),postprandial 2 hours insulin(2h INS)、HOMA-βdecline(all P < 0.05),7%≤HbA1c≤9% group’s postprandial2 hours plasma glucose(2h PG)was higher than HbA1 c < 7% group’s(P <0.05),7%≤HbA1c≤9% group and HbA1 c > 9% group have no difference in2 h PG(P > 0.05).Compared with T2 DM group,NGT group have lower HbA1c、body mass index(BMI)、FPG、postprandial 2 hours plasma glucose(2h PG)、insulin resistance(IR)(all P < 0.05)and higher insulin sensitivity index(ISI)(P <0.05).The NGT group’2h INS was lower than HbA1 c < 7% group’s in the T2DM(P < 0.05)and higher than HbA1 c > 9% group’s(P < 0.05)in the T2 DM group,but it has no difference compared with 7% ≤ HbA1 c ≤ 9% group(P >0.05).HOMA-β in the NGT group was higher than 7%≤HbA1c≤9% group and HbA1 c > 9% group,but have no difference compared with HbA1 c < 7%group(P > 0.05).In the correlation analysis,HbA1 c was positively related with FPG、2 h PG and negatively related with HOMA-β in 7%≤HbA1c≤9% group and negatively correlated with 2 h INS in HbA1c>9%group.In the whole T2 DM group,HbA1 c was positively related with FPG 、 2 h PG,and negatively correlated with 2 h INS、HOMA-β.Conclusion: The newly diagnosed T2 DM patients have a higher level of HbA1c、BMI、FPG、2 h PG、IR and a lower level of ISI than normal glucose tolerance patients.With elevated HbA1 c,newly diagnosed T2DM’s basal insulin secretion declines.HbA1 c can provide an evidence for treatment strategies in newly diagnosed T2 DM patients. |
