Objective To analysis the clinico-pathologic characteristics and prognosis of young breast cancer patients, give advise to young breast cancer patients' individualized diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Methods The clinical and pathological data of 127 young women with breast cancer from Jan,2006 to Jan,2011 in our hospital were retrospectively reviewed. They had been diagnosed with primary breast cancer and accepted surgery.Clinical treatment and follow-up data were obtained from the patients' medical records. We analysed the tumour size, surgical approach, lymph node metastasis, histological type, pathological stage, hormone receptor status,HER-2 expression and other indicators. Then we summarised the clinical and pathological of young breast cancer patients.Survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and the clinical parameters were analyzed using a log-rank test.Cox proportional hazards regression model were used to identify the risk factors for this cancer. Results Patients with stage ?,stage ? disease were 29%.Most patients had a bigger than 2cm tumour when they went for a treatment.Invasive ductal carcinoma was 89% which is dominate in pathological type.Lymph node metastasis rate was 46% which is relatively high.ER,PR positive rate were low while HER-2 positive rate was high.hormone receptor positive in 100 cases, accounting for 78.7%.HER-2 is overexpression of the 32 cases, accounting for 25.5%.triple negative breast cancer was 13.4%.The 5-year overall survival rates for patients with stage ?,stage ?,stage ?,stage ? disease were 97.4%,92.0%,71.0%,33.3% respectively. The 10-year overall survival rates for patients with stage ?,stage ?,stage ?,stage ? disease were 94.7%,90.0%,71.0%,33.3% respectively.Obtained by Cox multivariate analysis: The pathologic stage(P<0.01),abortion(P=0.04)were statistically significant for 5-year OS,The pathologic stage(P<0.01),Body Mass Index(BMI)(P=0.02)were statistically significant for 10-year OS;The pathologic stage(P<0.01),postoperation radiotherapy(P=0.02)were statistically significant for 5-year PFS,The pathologic stage(P<0.01),abortion(P=0.01),postoperation radiotherapy(P<0.01)were statistically significant for 10-year PFS.Conclusion Young women with breast cancer always have large solid tumor. There is more lymph node metastasis and their pathological features in invasive ductal carcinoma. The pathological features indicated that breast cancer in young women is more invasive. The prognostic factors of young breast cancer patients are pathologic stage, abortion, postoperation radiotherapy,BMI.
