| Objective:1 Family intergenerational relationship questionnaire is introduced from overseas and developed into its Chinese version. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire are then tested among the elderly to provide an effective assessment tool for studying family intergenerational relationships domestically.2 The influences of family intergenerational relationship on mental health of the elderly are to be explored. Methods:The English version of family relationship questionnaire was translated, revised to form Chinese family intergenerational relationship questionnaire.530 senior citizens who had been chosen in the method of convenience sampling were surveyed by using general data questionnaire,Chinese family intergenerational relations questionnaire and elderly mental health scale(city version).Epidate13.0 and SPSS17.0 statistical software were used to record the data of the survey and to do single factor analysis,Spearman correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis.Results:1 Internal consistency coefficient of the dimensions in the questionnaire is between 0.696--0.810.Four common factors are extracted from the questionnaire structure validity: solidarity A,solidarity S,normative solidarity and ambivalence, which are consistent with source questionnaire theory frame and the dimensions.2 With a total score of(506.00±86.11),mental health status of the elderly is statistically significant in the differences of gender, age, income, marital status, physical condition, cultural degree, living conditions, and the number of children.25.6% of total variation of mental health among the elderly can be explained through six variables: age, physical condition, solidarity A,conflicts and ambivalence.3 Family intergenerational relationships are significantly correlated with mental health of the elderly. There is a significantly positive correlation between Solidarity A(affectional solidarity and consensual solidarity)and mental health of the elderly, but a negatively correlation between intergenerational conflicts and mental health of the elderly.Functional solidarity(help accepted and offered),solidarity S(associational solidarity and structural solidarity)and normative solidarity are only related to individual mental health dimension of the elderly instead of the total mental health score of the elderly.Conclusion:1 Chinese version of family intergenerational relationship questionnaire shows a good level of reliability and validity in measurement results. Thus,it can be used as a quantitative measurement tool for family intergenerational relationships in our country.2 Individual characteristics and family intergenerational relationships are closely associated with mental health of the elderly.Establishing harmonious family intergenerational relationships is an effective way to maintain and improve mental health of the elderly. |
