Equisetum hiemale L.is a weed of the Equisetaceae family, which is widely distributed in north and northeast of China.E.hiemale has been used as a traditional Chinese folk medicine for many years.Studies of the activites showed that E.hiemale has scattered wind-heat activity, protecting the liver activity, protecting cardiovascular system, stop bleeding activity, and so on.In this paper, the antitumor constituents from dichloromethane extract of the overground part of E.hiemale was studied.By using various chromatographic methods, including silica gel column,Rp silica gel column and high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),7 compounds were isolated from the E.hiemale.They were identified as methyl linoleate(1),?-sitosterol(2),daucosterol(3),quercetin(4),kaempferol-3,7-double glycosidase(5),kaempfero-7-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(6)and asarinin(7)by spectral evidences.Among them, compound 1 and 7 were obtained from this plant for the first time.In cytotoxic assays in vitro, compounds 1-6 exhibited cytotoxicities, with IC50 values of 93.78 ?M,134.49 ?M,68.52 ?M,162.63 ?M,159.68 ?M and 114.33 pM,respectively, against human epithelial carcinoma cell line(Hela cells),and with values of 119.74 ?M,88.99?M,97.74?M,137.62?M,165.94?M,97.58?M,respectively,against human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cell line(HepG2 cells).
