Abstract ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of miR-126 and the clinical significance in PBMCs of patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR).Methods76 type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients were assigned into four groups:non-diabetic retinopathy (NDR, n=30), non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR,n=25), proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR, n=21) and control (CON, n=30). By RT-PCR, the expression of miR-126 in PBMCs was detected and the expression of plasma VEGF was analyzed using ELISA.Results1.The plasma level of high density lipoprotein (HDL) and the number of white blood cell (WBC) in PDR group was significant higher than that in NDR and NPDR groups (P<0.05).2.The expression of miR-126 in PDR and NPDR groups was lower than that in the NDR and CON groups (P<0.05).3.Compared with the CON group,ELISA showed a significant increasing of plasma VEGF in the NDR,NPDR and PDR groups (P<0.05).4.there was a negative correlation between miR-126 in PBMCs and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) or VEGF (r=-0.67,P<0.05; r=-0.74, P<0.05).ConclusionsThe changes of miR-126 in PBMCs may participate in the onset and development of DR, and associated with the seriousness of DR. |
