Analysis Of Influencing Factors Of Preschool Childhood Obesity In Huairou District,Beijing

Objective To investigate the influencing factors bringing on obesity in children aged 3 to 6 in Huairou district,Beijing,as well as to provide evidences for the early intervention and prevention.Methods Stratified cluster sampling and case-control study are applied in the study,with a random selection of 6 kindergartens in Huairou,Beijing.The national standard for childhood obesity and overweight in preschool children aged from 2 to 18 was set as the criterion to carry out physical tests in these kindergartens.The selected children with obesity were matched 1 to 1 with other normal children with the same sex,age and class.Self-administered Questionnaires were conducted among parents,and logistic regression was applied to analyze the factors.Results Compared with girls,incidence of obesity in boys is higher(χ2=6.083,P<0.05).The average weight of obese children’s parents is higher than those of normal-weight children(P<0.001).The logistic regression revealed some crucial risk factors for preschool childhood obesity,which include a higher weight of the farther(OR=1.082),artificial feeding after 6 months post-partum(OR=5.986),taking meat as major food for each meal(OR=7.979),compulsive eating of some specific food(like high-calorie food)(OR=4.801),much higher expectations to children’s weight(OR=6.191).The protective factor for preschool childhood obesity is that parents are willing to change children’s body type by controlling their weights(OR=0.059).Conclusion The occurrence of obesity in preschool children are resulted from multiple factors.This study analyzed the influencing factors for preschool childhood obesity from pregnancy conditions,children’s diets,parents’ cognition to family behavior habits and concluded that it can be beneficial to early prevention of childhood obesity by controlling the weight of parents,encouraging breast feeding and balanced diets.
