Objective:To compare the short-term clinical results of Paclitaxel coated balloon angioplasty(PCBA)and plain old balloon angioplasty(POBA)in remedying popliteal arteriosclerosis occlusive disease.Method:From July 2013 to July 2016,56 patients who had severe intermittent claudication or critical limb ischemia(CLI)due to stenosis or occlusion of popliteal artery were treated by endovascular technology.30 patients(30 limbs)were treated by PCBA and 26 patients(26 limbs)by POB A.We compared clinical data of both groups at 1,3 and 6 months.Subgroup analysis:according to syndrome type of Traditional Chinese Medicine,15 patients of PCBA group had accepted oral decoction,"Taohong Siwu tang",for 12 weeks, this subgroup is named as"combined with oral decoction subgroup"(COD).The other 15 patients of PCBA group without oral decoction is named as "no oral decoction subgroup"(NOD).We compared two subgroups'postoperative restenosis rate, target lesion revascularization rate and limb salvage rate at 1,3 and 6 months.Outcome:1.The follow-up rate was 93.3%(28 patients)in PCBA group and 88.5%(23 patients)in POB A group(?2=0.41,P>0.05),and mean(±SD)length of treated segment respectively was(8.6±3.3)cm and(6.9±3.7)cm(t=1.817,P>0.05).2.According to peak systolic velocity rate(PSVR>2.4 as restenosis),1-month,3-month and 6-month restenosis rates were 0.0%(0 patient)in PCBA group VS.13.0%(3 patients)in POBA group(x~2=1.88,P>0.05),0.0%(0 patient)VS.26.1%(6patients)(x~2=5.96,P<0.05),3.6%(1 patient)VS.65.2%(15 patients)(x~2=22.29,P<0.01),respectively.3.6-month Target Lesion Revascularization(TLR):3.6%(1 patient)in PCBA group VS.60.9%(14 patients)in POBA group(?2=19.97,P<0.01),limb salvage rate at 6 months was 100%(28 patients)VS.65.2%(15 patients)(?2=11.55,P<0.01).4.The follow-up rate was 93.3%(14 patients)in both subgroups of PCBA group(P>0.05),and mean(±SD)length of treated segment respectively was(8.4±3.1)cm in combined with oral decoction(COD)subgroup and(8.8±3.5)cm in no oral decoction(NOD)subgroup(t=-0.32,P>0.05).1-month,3-month and 6-month restenosis rates were 0.0%(0 patient)in COD subgroup VS.0.0%(0 patient)in NOD subgroup(P>0.05),0.0%(0 patient)VS.0.0%(0 patient)(P>0.05),0.0%(0 patient)VS.6.7%(1 patient)(P>0.05),respectively.6-month TLR:0.0%(0 patient)in COD subgroup VS.6.7%(1 patient)in NOD subgroup(P>0.05),limb salvage rate at 6 months was 100%(14 patients)VS.100%(14 patients)in both subgroups(P>0.05).Conclusion:In the short term,Paclitaxel Coated Balloon Angioplasty was superior to POBA for anti-restenosis of popliteal arteriosclerosis occlusive disease.Of course,we have to regist more patients and prolong our follow-up to estimate whether the therapy combined with oral decoction"Taohong Siwu Tang",could improve anti-restenosis efficacy.
