Diabetes Awareness,Treatment,Control Rate And Their Influence Factors Among Urban Residents In Jiaozuo City

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to estimate the awareness,treatment,and control of diabetes mellitus in the adult population aged over 35 years old living in urban areas in Jiaozuo city.To study the influence factors associated with the awareness,treatment and control of diabetes mellitus and to provide a theoretical basis for the strategy providing the awareness,treatment,and control of diabetes mellitus which may finally reduce diabetes prevalence in Jiaozuo city.MethodsA total of 1626 patients with diabetes mellitus from 5 communities in Jiaozuo city in Henan province were included in the study.A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect the data of medical history and treatment as well as demographic characteristics,living habits,family history of disease.Database was established by Epidata3.0,then SPSS18.0 statistical software was used to conducted analysis.The logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the influence factors of awareness,treatment and control of diabetes.Results1.The prevalence of awareness,treatment and control of diabetes mellitus in urban areas in Jiaozuo cityIn the total of 1626 patients with diabetes included in the study,46.74% patients were aware of the diagnosis,42.07% were receiving treatment,and 14.02% had glucose levels controlled.2.The influence factors of awareness,treatment and control of diabetes mellitusMultivariate logistic analysis showed that increase in age was the strongest risk factors associated with better awareness of diabetes mellitus.Patients whose monthly income ranges from 2000 to 2999(OR=1.68,95%CI:1.23~2.29)and more than 3000(OR=1.75,95%CI: 1.29~2.37)were more likely to aware of their diabetes mellitus condition.A family history of diabetes mellitus increased the likelihood of awareness of diabetes mellitus(OR=2.43,95%CI: 1.64~3.59).Those who drink were less likely to aware of their diabetes mellitus condition.Those who aged 45~54(OR=1.99,95%CI: 1.32~2.99)and those aged 55~64(OR=2.89,95%CI: 1.96~4.28)were more likely to receive treatment.Women were less likely to receive treatment(OR=0.66,95%CI:0.52~0.83).The increases of monthly income enhance the possible of receiving treatment.Patients who like drinking were less likely to receive the treatment.Those who aged over 65 years old more likely have a normal blood glucose levels(OR=2.50,95%CI:1.42~4.42).Those who drink(OR=0.41,95%CI:0.20~0.86)or have a high fat diet(OR=0.41,95%CI: 0.24~0.69)were less likely to have a normal blood glucose level.Conclusion1.Our study showed that the prevalence of awareness,treatment,and control of diabetes mellitus in the adult population aged over 35 years old living in urban areas in Jiaozuo city were 46.74%,42.07% and 14.02% respectively.2.With increasing age,high monthly income,having a family history of diabetes mellitus and non-drinkers were more likely to aware their diabetes condition.3.With increasing age,high monthly income,men were more likely to accept the treatment.Drinkers were difficult to receive the treatment.4.Men,elderly were associated with a nice blood glucose level,while drinking,high fat diet.Decreased the possible of having a normal blood glucose level.
