Objective: To investigate the effects of extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields(ELF-EMF)on the composition of blood cells,blood viscosity,blood lipids and the structure of heart and aorta,and then to predict the effects of ELF-EMF on human blood and cardiovascular system so as to provide theoretical basis for the study of radiation damage mechanism of extremely low frequency electromagnetic field and provide new ideas and methods for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.Methods: 20 male SD rats were randomly divided into the contrast group and the experimental group.The former had no contacts with electromagnetic fields,while the latter were exposed to very low-frequency fields.SD rats in the experimental group were subjected to the exposure system for 30 days,5 hours per day.At the end of thirtieth days after exposure,the peripheral blood hematogram,the blood chemistry,the levels of blood lipid and the properties of hemorheology were carried out for all the rats which were anesthetized and fixed.Moreover,the heart and aorta of the SD rats were collected and subjected to haematoxylin-eosin(HE)staining at the end of the exposure period,and their structures were observed.Results: There was no significant difference in peripheral blood white blood cell count,red blood cell count,platelet count,hemoglobin concentration and red blood cell ratio between the exposed group and the control group.Whole blood viscosity and the aggregation indexes of red blood cell was reduced significantly(P <0.05);Total cholesterol,triglyceride and low density lipoprotein were decreased(P <0.05),but the high density lipoprotein did not change(P >0.05).Pathological examination of the heart and aorta showed that the ELF-EMF had obvious damage to the myocardial cells and aortic.Conclusion: ELF-EMF can reduce blood viscosity and blood lipids,improve blood environment,and have a good preventive effect on cardiovascular disease.However,it may cause damage to the heart and aorta,and we should strengthen the protection of extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields.
