Application Of Tracheal Stents In Benign Airway Stenosis

Benign airway stenosis is becoming increasingly prevalent among the respiratory system diseases.In our country,the most common cause of benign airway stenosis is the tuberculosis infection.In recent years,with the development of rescue techniques,the number of the patients of airway stenosis caused by tracheal intubation and tracheotomy increased year by year.Generally,the initial symptom of airway stenosis is dyspnea,which can be accompanied by obstructive inflammation.The symptoms of dyspnea can be gradually aggravated,end with the life-threatening conditions such as respiratory failure.The first choice of traditional treatment is surgical treatment.With the development and improvement of science and technology,the side effects brought by stents are on the decrease.It gradually becomes the dispensable treatment for patients with benign airway stenosis.However,until now,there is no uniform provisions and exposition about the types,application methods,advantages and disadvantages of stents.The review describes the types of airway stents,and makes a brief introduction of the clinical applications,merits and faults,complications and other aspects of stents as well.The purpose of this paper is to summarize and compare the existing stents and to offer us help of selection and application of airway stents in the future.
