Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Endorectal ultrasound(ERUS)compared to magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in the preoperative staging of rectal cancer patients with pathological examination as control; Methods: From January to December,2015,the total of 72 patients with confirmed pathological examination of rectal cancer had under gone endorectal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging examinations, the preoperative T and N staging are depend on the AJCC staging cancer manual(American Joint Committee On Cancer). The results were compared with those of postoperative pathological staging; Results: the accuracy of ERUS and MRI for T staging was 81.94%(59/72)?66.67%(48/72)respectively(Kappa consistency examination with the pathological results analysis,Kappa=0.745,0.524,P<0.001),for N staging is 65.28%(47/72)?77.78%(56/72)respectively(Kappa=0.350?0.599,P<0.001);Conclusion: Compared to the postoperative pathological staging,ERUS has better consistency for T staging with pathological results, while MRI has better consistency for N staging.ERUS and MRI are two useful examination methods in preoperative staging of rectal cancer.
