ObjectiveTo evaluate the feasibility and necessity of early treatment in gastric stromal tumors(GSTs).MethodsA total of 157 patients with GISTs in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2007 to March 2016 were selected and divided into A group with the tumor size no more than2cm(n=88)and B group with the tumor size more than 2cm(n=69)according to the tumor size.The general information,perioperative period date and follow-up condition of the two groups were retrospectively reviewed.ResultsCompared to group B,the female proportion of group A was higer,and the proportion of the elderly was lower,and the difference had statistically significant difference(P < 0.05).The duration of operation,postoperation gastroeteric fuction recovery time,the time of taking food and postoperation hospital stays in group B were longer than thoese in group A,withstatistically significant difference(P<0.05).The follow-up date showed that new mesenchymoma appeared in 5 patients in A group,but the location was different from the origial,and 5 patients in B GSTs group was recurred including 3 cases of neoplasm metastasis and 2 cases died.ConclusionEarly resection of gastric stromal tumors ?2cm is necessary.Patients can acquire long-term benefit from early treatment of GSTs,and endoscopic resection can confirm the diagnosis,achieve the treatment aim,prevent or suspend progressive of the disease with small wound.
