Background:Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is one of the common urological diseases among middle and old aged men, with the manifestations of enlargement of prostate gland and lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS).There are two major treatments for BPH at present: expectant treatment and surgical operation. There are, however, still many disadvantages;so it is urgently needed to find a safer and more efficient and convenient treatment for BPH.Acupuncture and moxibustion can effectively relief the syndromes of lower urinary tract.Because of the lack of strict scientific research, low repeatability and regularity of treatment method and low level of standardization;the spreading and developing of the acupuncture and moxibustion have been seriously hindered. Objective:This study is to research the effectiveness and safety of the treatment for BPH with salt-isolated moxibustion on Shenque Acupoint(CV8)combined with warming needle moxibustion, and to provide a regulated and standardized acupuncture and moxibustion treatment plan based on clinical trials.Method:As a clinical randomized controlled trial, this study selected the BPH patients over 50 years old as the subjects. All the subjects were recruited from the patients visited the Acupuncture and Moxibustion Department and the Urinary Surgery Department of Changhai Hospital. This study observed 60 subjects in total. The treatment group was the BPH patient treated with salt-isolated moxibustion on Shenque Acupoint combined with warming needle moxibustion on Sanyinjiao Acupoint(SP 6),and the control groups were the patients treated only with medicine(the group of finasteride and the group of tamsulosin hydronchloride sustained release capsules). The treatment group was received acupuncture and moxibustion once a day,5 continuous days for treatment and 2 days for rest within one week. The control group was treated with medicine in normal dosage. All the above groups are 4 weeks as one course. After 3 courses, the 3 groups was observed.Main measuring indexes: Prostatic volume,Qmax,Qave,I-PSS,QOL,PVR,routine urine test, syndromes of Tradition Chinese Medicine, seriousness grading of diseaseResult:The significant efficiency of the treatment group is 66.67% and the effect onset earlier. The acupuncture and moxibustion treatment can significantly relief the clinical symptoms, and the ameliorations of residual urine volume and shrink of prostatic volume are better than that of western medicine. The clinical indexes before and after the treatment(nocturia frequency,I-PSS,QOL,Qmax,residual urine volume)have statistical significance(P<0.001).The therapeutic effect of the treatment group is better than or as same as that of the control group. There is no obvious adverse effects of the treatment. Conclusion: 1.The treatment of salt-isolated moxibustion on Shenque Acupoint combined withwarming needle moxibustion can effectively relief the clinical manifestations of BPH.2.The acupuncture and moxibustion treatment onsets rapid, reduces the nocturiafrequency, and significantly improve the patient's living quality.3.The therapeutic effect of the acupuncture and moxibustion on shrinking of Prostaticvolume is equal to that of finasteride.4.The acupuncture and moxibustion treatment is safe and has low side effect.Based on the clinical randomized controlled trial, this study proved the salt-isolated moxibustion on Shenque Acupoint combined with warming needle moxibustion on Sanyinjiao Acupoint can effective treat BPH with a broad prospect.
