Objective: To study the value of high frequency ultrasound in the clinical monitoring of patients undergoing the repair surgery of ruptured Achilles tendon. Methods: GE E9 ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus with a probe at a frequency of 9-15 MHz was employed in this study. The conditions of muscles and skeletons were pre-set,and subjects underwent high-frequency ultrasonography before and 4,6,12,24 weeks after surgery. The data were recorded and the affected side and the healthy side were compared. Results: The comparison between the affected side and the healthy side in 38 patients undergoing the repair of ruptured Achilles tendon showed that echo in Achilles tendon at the affected side was disordered and decreased, the thickness significantly decreased, and the suture end showed short linear or spotted-linear color flow signals at the 4th week;moderate and low echoes were detected in Achilles tendon at the affected side, and partial continuous signals of Achilles tendon and blood flow signals were seen at the 6th week.Echo in Achilles tendon at the affected side was enhanced, the thickness decreased, the Achilles tendon was continuous and complete, and internal blood flow signals decreased significantly at the 12 th week;the echo of Achilles tendon at the affected side was similar to that at health side, with clear textures, and internal blood flow signals almost disappeared at the 24 th week. The widest cross-sectional thickness and area at the suture end decreased gradually, but was still larger than that at the healthy side, comparison between the two sides being statistically significant. Conclusions: 1.The Images of repaired Achilles tendon at the 4th,6th,12 th and 24 th week after the surgery differed, and the difference in the thickness and the area at both sides are statistically significant. The blood flow signals of the Achilles tendon at the affected side decreases over time.2.High frequency ultrasound can be used to monitor and follow up the rehabilitation process of ruptured Achilles tendon, and the difference of images also has guidingsignificance for the rehabilitation.
