Objective:To investigate the role of noncontrast computerized tomography(NCCT)in predicting the therapeutic effect of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL)on upper ureteral stones.Materials and Methods: Analysis the CT value, stone area and skin-to-stone distance of 268 Adult patients with upper ureteral stones confirmed by NCCT and performed shock wave lithotripsy. The primary end point was stone-free status after 1 months.Predictive values of NCCT measurements on the therapeutic effect were then assessed. Results: Stone area, highest CT value, average CT value and Skin-to-stone distance was potential predictors of successful treatment.Logistic regression showed that the highest CT value and Skin-to-stone distance perform more advantages in predicting the successful treatment of upper ureteral stones with ESWL.Conclusions: NCCT can play an important role in predicting the successful treatment of upper ureteral stones with ESWL.The highest CT value and Skin-to-stone distance of upper ureteral stones helps to separate patients into outcome groups and facilitate treatment planning.
