Objective:To investigate the prevalence of obesity among junior high school students in Taizhou, and explore the influencing factors of obesity, such as diet and exercise,so that to provide scientific evidence for the development of targeted prevention and control measures. Methods:Nine schools from 9 counties(cities, districts)of Taizhou were selected by stratified random sampling method, then were under effective monitoring. The GB/T 26343-2010 Student Health Examination Technical Specifications Appendix A "The Screening Standards of Overweight Obesity for Children Adolescents" was used to define the obesity overweight,a cross-sectional study was carried out.Furthermore,a case-control study was carried out among 4 schools obtained by stratified random sampling of explore the influencing factors of obesity overweight.Results:1.Growth and development:This study monitored 9 schools, including 9668 students(5334 boys and 4334 girls). The average height of the students was 160.38±8.34 cm,weight was 52.16±11.87 Kg,and the BMI index was 20.15±3.67.County(city,district)urban students' body weight and the BMI index mean value were higher than those of the town(township,street)(P<0.05);height,weight,and the BMI index of students in private schools on average were significantly higher than those of public schools(P<0.05);height,weight,BMI index, the average values of boys were significantly higher than those of girls(P<0.05).According to the age group, there were significant differences in the height of the male and female students except the "10?" group(P<0.05).The average height of boys in "11?"group was shorter than that of girls, while the average height of boys in the "12?13?16?14?15" groups was higher than that of girls; In addition to "10?11?16?" group, the average weight of boys in other age groups was significantly higher than that of female students(P<0.05);Except for"10??15??16?"groups,the average BMI index of boys in other age groups was significantly higher than that of female students(P<0.05),2.Overweight and obesity:a total of 9668 junior high school students were evaluated, and 1469 overweight students were detected,so the detection rate was 15.19%.Meanwhile,858 obesities were detected, and the detection rate was 8.87%.The prevalence rate of obesity among students in counties(cities, districts)and urban areas was 9.08%,6.20%(?2=6.579,P =0.010)in the towns(townships, streets); The detection rate of obesity in male students was 11.30%,and that of female students was 5.88%(?2=86.895,P =0.000);There was no significant difference in obesity detection between public and private schools.According to the age group, the obesity detection rate of boys except 12,13,and 14 group was higher than that of female students(P<0.05),and there was no significant difference in the prevalence of obesity between male and female students in other age groups.3.Related factors of obesity:the results of case-control study showed that overweight and obese parents, salty diet, unbalanced diet(relative to diet, half meat and half vegetable),feeling bad health, fear of obesity were risk effects for obesity;Among them, there was a dose-response relationship between overweight and obesity parents and childhood obesity, which means that those students whose parents both were overweight and obese were more likely to be obese than those with only one overweight or obese parent.Picky eaters, sweets, sports and so on were the protective effects of obesity.Conclusions:1.Results of the study indicated that the growth and development of junior high school students in Taizhou were in good condition.Height, weight and other indicators accorded with the general rules of physical development of children and adolescence in China.2.The detection rates of overweight and obesity were higher than the average level among junior high in Taizhou. The prevalence rate of obesity among students in counties(cities, districts)is higher than that in towns(townships and streets),and boys are higher than girls. The detection rate of obesity at the age of 10?15 is decreasing year by year, and that of 16-year-old group raised slightly. Therefore, further development of student obesity prevention and control work is imperative, and urban students, boys and young teenagers, etc.,were the key objectives of prevention and control.3.Obesity among junior high school students in Taizhou is influenced by many factors.Overweight and obese parents, salty diet, irregular diet(relative to diet, half meat and half grain),feeling bad health, fear of obesity were risk effects for obesity;Picky eaters, sweets, sports, feeling good health and so on were the protective effects of obesity. Therefore, prevention of obesity should emphasize on strengthening health education, paying attention to making their meals reasonable, keeping the balance of nutrition, encouraging regular exercise, and developing good habits. While improving the physical quality of students, the society should also pay attention to improve students'mental health.
