Objective To compare the performance of digital breast tomosynthesis(Digital breast tomosynthesis,DBT)plus full-field digital mammography(Full filed digital mamography,FFDM)versus FFDM in mammary gland diseases. Methods A prospective study was conducted,98 women underwent DBT examinations with 76 diagnosed IDCs(invasive ductual carcinoma),12 adenosis,6intraductal papillomas,4 mastisis ascertained at histology. Two radiologists interpreted DBT plus FFDM images and FFDM images respectively, reporting malignancy probability and mammographic features(architectural distortions, masses, calcificaions and mixed mammographic findings).Comparing the perfomance of DBT plus FFDM versus FFDM using the receiver operating characteristics(ROC)curve and the area under the curve(AUC).Results ROC analysis for DBT plus FFDM yielded AUC 0.895 versus 0.791 for FFDM alone, with a statistically significant difference(P=0.036).For calcified lesions, the percentage of correct identification was 84/92(91%)for FFDM plus DBT versus 69/92(75%)for FFDM alone, with a statistically significant difference(?2=8.729,p<0.05);For non-calcified lesions, the percentage of correct identification was 87/96(91%)for FFDM plus DBT versus 68/96(71%)for FFDM alone, with a statistically significant difference(?2=12.086,p<0.05).Conclusion DBT plus FFDM improved the detecting performance and accuracy of mammographic interpretation for IDCs compared with FFDM alone.
